Ramiro is graduating with his high school class in June!
On the day Ramiro learned he made his middle school soccer team he and his family were informed of abnormal blood work. He underwent several bone marrow biopsies at the age of 13 revealing he had pediatric MDS and Monosomy 7. Chemo and a bone marrow transplant were the only treatment options available. He was told that he wouldn’t be able to attend school, play soccer nor attend any public place for one year. With only a 25% chance of a sibling match, Ramiro’s sister was found to be a perfect matching donor. Ramiro was determined to not allow MDS nor his treatment keep him from playing soccer and graduating high school with his class. Everyday he met with his tutor in the hospital and walked the halls of the stem cell unit to keep his body strong. Ramiro was back on the soccer field, 5 months after his bone marrow transplant. Today he is happy, healthy and excited to be graduating with his high school class in June.
